Sometimes slowing down isn’t enough — you have to stop and learn the lesson.

The lawyer straightened his wrinkled jacket and glared at the sheriff while rubbing his bruised arm.

“You can’t do that!” he shouted. “I know my rights!”

The sheriff leaned against the patrol car, calm as ever. “And I know stop signs.”

Furious, the lawyer promised to sue the entire county. He drove away in humiliation, determined to get revenge.

A month later, he returned to the small West Virginia town with a stack of legal papers and a smug grin. He marched into the courthouse expecting an easy victory over the “ignorant hillbilly sheriff.”

But the sheriff arrived with dashcam footage, witness statements, and the town judge — who happened to be the sheriff’s older brother.

The lawyer argued for nearly an hour, using fancy words nobody in the courtroom understood. Finally, he finished with a dramatic flourish.

The old judge adjusted his glasses and asked, “Son, did you stop at the stop sign?”

The lawyer hesitated. “Well… not exactly.”

The judge smiled. “Case dismissed. And around here, we call that common sense.”

The whole courtroom burst into laughter while the lawyer walked out red-faced and defeated.

As he reached his car, he noticed a brand-new stop sign at the courthouse exit. This time, he stopped for a full ten seconds before driving away.
