The eldest son replied calmly, “School was fine, Dad… But Mom’s friend came over again.”
The room suddenly went silent.
The wife froze, nearly dropping her spoon. Her husband looked up slowly and asked, “Friend?”
The younger daughter innocently added, “Yeah… the same man who was here this afternoon when you were at work.”
The husband’s face turned pale. He stared at his wife, waiting for an explanation, but she couldn’t say a word. The children lowered their heads, realizing something was terribly wrong.
After a long silence, the old man pushed his chair back and walked outside to the porch. The wife followed him, tears filling her eyes.
“I never wanted to hurt you,” she whispered.
The husband sighed deeply. “Then why did you?”
She admitted that she had married him for security, not love, and over time she felt trapped and lonely. But seeing the pain in her children’s eyes made her realize how badly she had broken the family.
That night, nobody slept well.
The next morning, the husband gathered the children and gently told them, “No matter what happens between adults, I will always love you.”
Months later, the couple separated peacefully. It was painful, but the children learned an important lesson: secrets may stay hidden for a while, but the truth always finds its way out.
